Wedding ring found after 64 years By Samúel Karl Ólason 6. janúar 2015 14:22 Elín Sigurðardóttir and Óskar Jónsson. Last weekend, Óskar Jónsson from Dalvík got his wedding ring back, but he lost the ring 64 years ago. He and his wife, Elín Sigurðardóttir, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November. The ring was found after a fire in an old garage. Brynjar Aðalsteinsson searched for the owner of the ring for a month. "I was completely at loss for words when he brought it. I had never thought of that. It is also strange that in the beginning of November I was thinking about buying a ring and putting on her finger at our anniversary. But my poor health prevented that," Óskar says in an interview with Vísir, but he celebrates his 90th birthday this year.As good as new Óskar says that his wife's sister's husband had run the garage where the ring was found. Yet, he thought he had lost it during snow clearing. "My wife's sister's husband owned that garage. I thought I had lost it on a road. Obviously, it had been lost in there, but I thought for sure it was laying on the highway." Óskar says that the ring is as good as new. But he has never worn a ring since then. Before he lost the ring, he wore a steel ring on his finger. When he was shovelling salt into a ship at his job, Óskar got pinched and the ring had to be sawn off his finger. "I never put a ring on my finger again, until now. Better late than never," Óskar says laughing.Found after a fire "We were removing the ruins after a damage due to fire and craftsmen, carpenters, masons and electricians had been there and there was a lot of stuff all around the place that was thrown away," Brynjar says. The ring. The cleaning was almost finished and a young boy who was fixing the place up found a few inch rulers. "He hands me one of the inch rulers and asks: What is this? On the inch rule there was a ring and I said: Apart from the inch ruler it seems to me that this is a wedding ring. The boys is now gone to school and I forgot to ask him whether he was asking about the inch ruler or the ring," Brynjar says. The ring found its way home This happened about a month ago and Brynjar has been searching for the owner of the ring since then. He called the Goldsmiths' Guild and advertised for it on Facebook. Last weekend Brynjar's wife got the idea that Elín and Óskar might be the owners of the ring due to the inscription: Your Elín. "The ring found its way home exactly a month after we found it. It has weighed on me since the beginning." "This is absolutely incredible. I was so pleased that they were the owners of it. The ring has weighed on me each and every day. This has almost been like being the hobbit Frodo. It has bearly left my mind and I had to find the owner. I've also lost a ring and found it. This was fantastic."
